GCS Credit Union employee Daniel Whitaker donated $445 of his No-Shave November winnings to Twigs, an organization that provides lunch to children at risk of not having a lunch during the summer months.
During November, GCS Credit Union male employees had the opportunity to participate in No-Shave November in exchange for a donation. Nineteen employees participated, raising a total of $445, which the winning employee donated to a charity of his choice.
Participants could not shave during the entire month of November. Each week participants sent an updated photo of their beard’s progress. At the end of the contest, employees anonymously voted for their favorite beard based on criteria like fullness, length and design. Daniel Whitaker, GCS Credit Union employee and winner of No-Shave November, chose to donate the $445 to Twigs.
The goal of Twigs is to provide a lunch to children at risk of not having a lunch during the summer months. The children identified as being at risk are those who qualify for the nationally funded free and reduced lunch program during the school year. Therefore, through partnerships with local school districts the neighborhoods where at-risk children live are identified and lunch locations are set up. The locations vary from a firehouse to an empty lot owned by the city. The goal is to have enough locations so every child has the ability to walk to get a lunch.
