The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Thursday that Interstate 270 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at the Mississippi River beginning at midnight Friday, July 15.
This work is required to seal the eastbound and westbound bridge decks. These lane closures will remain in place around the clock until completion, which is expected to be 9 p.m. Sunday, July 17.
Motorists are urged to use caution, obey all warning signs and allow extra time when traveling through the work zone.
Oil-and-chip work to close lanes on area thoroughfares
Old Edwardsville Road between Illinois 111 and Rohm Place in the Wood River area intermittently will be restricted to one lane beginning Monday, July 11.
This work will take place daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and is necessary to construct an oil-and-chip coating on this route. This work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Schipkowski Road between Illinois 143 and Pin Oak Road in the Edwardsville area intermittently will be restricted to one lane beginning Friday, July 8, daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to construct an oil-and-chip coating.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
Delays are expected. The department advises motorists to follow all construction signs and drive with caution through the work zones.
