WOOD RIVER — A 57-year-old man was hospitalized after being struck early Tuesday by a vehicle in the 100 block of Haller Street, police said.
According to a statement by Deputy Chief Dan Bunt, Wood River officers responded at 2:21 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a man struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying in the road.
Wood River firefighters and paramedics and an Alton Memorial Hospital ambulance arrived a short time later. The victim was transported by ambulance to Alton Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted by an ARCH Air Medical Services helicopter to Saint Louis University Hospital. The extents of the victim’s injuries are unknown, but he was listed in stable condition Tuesday morning.
The driver remained at the scene and is in custody at the Wood River Police Department pending charges of driving under the influence.
