EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office representatives participated in a training session for local police officers on child physical and sexual abuse investigations.
First Assistant State’s Attorney Jennifer Mudge and Assistant State’s Attorney Kathleen Nolan, head of the Children’s Justice Division, discussed the Why and How of and Child Abuse Investigations with patrol officers as part of a two-hour training session sponsored by the Southwestern Illinois Law Enforcement Commission.
As part of the training, officers learned about laws and various elements that are unique to child abuse cases. Additionally, evidence collection, report-writing, and follow-up investigations were among topics discussed at the training July 15 at Edwardsville’s City Hall.
“Our success in the courtroom is all part of a team effort,” State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons said. “Trainings such as these allow for us to let our partners in law enforcement know what we need to build the most thorough and comprehensive case we can against a defendant. That give us our best shot at achieving justice for our victims.”
