ALTON — Senior Services Plus welcomed Alton Police Department officers to its facility Wednesday morning to meet residents over a cup of joe in an effort to bring officers closer to the residents they serve and protect.
“The Coffee with a Cop is something new we are trying as part of a community outreach initiative,” Communications Officer Emily Hejna said. “We hope that any member of the Alton community is able to join us to have a nice conversation.”
In an effort to develop and maintain citizen trust, opening a door of communication is the main objective of Coffee with a Cop.
“We have a great relationship with the Alton Police Department at Senior Services Plus,” SSP Events and Activities Coordinator Kim Campbell said. “The focus is to bring people of all ages and backgrounds into our facility for a chance to talk with officers, ask questions and just show the residents that the officers are approachable and work for them.”
John Becker of Senior Services Plus welcomed the officers and thanked them for their continued positive relationship with SSP.
Police departments across the country are participating in Coffee with a Cop to open lines of communication between officers and citizens. For information, visit www.coffeewithacop.com.
