American Red Cross disaster volunteers gave emergency food and clothing Monday to two Granite City families — four adults and a child — after a morning home fire and to a Grafton flood victim.
According to a Red Cross press release, the Granite City fire was in the 4000 block of Maryland Court. The Grafton man’s home is on East Water Street.
The American Red Cross of Eastern Missouri is a member agency of the United Way of Greater St. Louis.
The Red Cross provides assistance with food, shelter and other needs following emergencies. Volunteers and donors make it possible for the Red Cross to respond immediately. All Red Cross disaster relief assistance is free. For other emergency and long-term needs, call the United Way’s 2-1-1 resource center, where a trained specialist is always available. Those with cell phones only should call 1-800-427-4626.
The Red Cross is part of the “All Ready” campaign, an effort among emergency preparedness experts in the bi-state region that focuses on the importance of individual preparedness. The campaign encourages the three critical steps of preparedness: “Make a plan, get a kit, be informed.”
