ALTON — Relics of the True Cross and Christ’s Passion will be presented from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at
Ss. Peter and Paul Pro-Cathedral Church, 717 State St.
This event allows participants of all ages in any level of spirituality to deepen and grow in their faith. A unique collection of relics has been brought together in a program of meditations, music and prayers commemorating the events of the Passion of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Rare collections such as the Relics of the Passion are generally seen only in Rome or the Holy Land. The relics include a piece of the True Cross, a piece of stone from the room where the Last Supper was held, a piece of the Column of Flagellation, a piece of the Crown of Thorns, the effigy of the Veil of Veronica (touched to the original veil), a replica of a holy nail which contains filings from the true nails, a piece of bone from St. Longinus, and a thread from the cloth used as a wrapping for the Burial Shroud.
“We encourage you to join us in this Year of Mercy for a special opportunity that is sure to touch your heart and connect you with the roots of your faith,” a Ss. Peter and Paul press release states.
