Fall color experts and horticulturists across Illinois are predicting a dynamic display of leaf color changing this season. Cool temperatures throughout the region will lead to vibrant displays of leaves. The longer the first frost holds off, the longer the trees will showcase the changing leaves.
ALTON — An additional “Fall Colors” cruise on board the Hakuna Matata excursion boat has been added to the Alton riverfront from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19.
The Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau (ARCVB) in partnership with Grafton River Adventures has added a second Fall Colors cruise on Sunday to meet the demand from three sell-out river cruises for the weekend. Boarding for the newly added cruise begins at 1 p.m. at Alton Marina. The cruise will last about one hour. The cost is $18 for adults, $16 for seniors (age 63-plus) and $9 for children.
The Hakuna Matata, run by Grafton River Adventures, is an all-weather, 53-foot, 49-passenger tour boat. The first level of the boat is fully enclosed with large windows and is seasonally air-conditioned and heated. The upper deck is a huge open air patio offering 360-degree views of the river, bluffs, islands and historical points of interest along the way.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys the scenic fall drives to take to the river instead and see the fall colors from a completely new vantage point,” Brett Stawar, President and CEO of the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau said. “There is nothing like a relaxing cruise on the river with views of the majestic limestone bluffs which will be shining with fall colors.”
