ROXANA — Sami Owsley is being remembered by family and friends as the second anniversary of her tragic passing approaches on Nov. 9.
The 5K will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Roxana High School, 401 Chaffer Ave. The entry fee is $15 and $18 for size 2XL or larger to cover the cost of a commemorative T-shirt in honor of Sami.
As the Owsley family continues to feel the void in their lives, they are taking pride in the fact that the memory of their daughter will live on through a memorial scholarship that will be awarded to a Roxana senior every year.
“We had talked about doing a fundraiser and we were so happy when the idea of doing the 5K in honor of Sami became a reality,” Sami’s mother, Deena Owsley, said. “Sami was such a great student and it would mean a lot to her that one or more students from Roxana will have a scholarship to get them started in college.”
In 2014, the 5K raised upward of $900 and the goal is to beat the amount raised the previous year.
Registration is not required, but only pre-registered participants will receive their shirt on the day of the event.
To register, send an email with shirt size and quantity to firstname.lastname@example.org. Anyone unable to attend is welcome to make a donation to the memorial scholarship fund.
