ALTON — The Salvation Army will be doing Christmas applications from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at 521 Alby St.
Participants will need to bring a picture ID for parent or guardian, proof of income, proof of address, and Social Security cards for each member of the household. Participants who don’t have a Social Security card will need to bring an original print-out from the Social Security office. All members in the household must be verified, which may be done with medical cards or birth certificates. Participants must have all of this information to fill out an application. There will be no call-backs or faxing of information. All applications must be filled out in person. Participants cannot apply for another person and must meet income guidelines to qualify for assistance. Food and toy applications are being taken for families with children age 12 and younger and food-only applications for households with children older than 12.
Area stores have Salvation Army Angel Trees. To donate a toy, grab a tag from an Angel Tree and drop the toy off at the Salvation Army office at 525 Alby St. Office hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Make arrangements for a different drop off time if needed. People interested in adopting a specific child or children can call Melissa about the “Adopt-A-Family” program at (618) 465-7764.
