• The city enjoyed one of its largest Halloween parade celebrations this year.
With more than 80 floats and participants as well as a large spectator turnout, the annual parade that runs from Sixth Street to Ferguson Avenue to Wood River Avenue was a success by all accounts. Dream Home Realty’s Willy Wonka float won first prize, along with other winners Shell Credit Union, Folsom Distributing, Computer Specialists, 1st Mid America Credit Union, and the East Alton-Wood River Class of 1969 for its Wizard of Oz float, complete with “falling” house.
• Jeffrey’s Flowers by Design is having its ninth annual Christmas Open House from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9.
The shop, located at 322 Wesley Drive (in the Boos Plaza), has developed a reputation for its tradition of a “blowout” event, with discounts, door prizes, and wall-to-wall gifts, bouquets, keepsakes, and more. On Nov. 9 only, a 15 percent discount cash and carry will be offered.
