ALTON — In recognition of American Stroke Month, OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center is presenting two free Lunch & Learn sessions about stroke awareness for the community and health center Mission Partners. A free box lunch and refreshments will be provided. To register, call (618) 465-2264.

- Noon Wednesday, May 20, in the OSF Saint Clare’s Medical Office Building Auditorium.
- Noon Wednesday, May 27, in the OSF Saint Anthony’s Perpetual Help Center.
Dr. Karna Sherwood, neurologist with Saint Anthony’s Physician Group, will give a presentation on stroke awareness. The sessions will help participants know, identify and react to signs and symptoms of a stroke.
Stroke is a disease that affects the arteries leading to and within the brain. It is the fifth-leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of adult disability, according to the American Stroke Association.
OSF Saint Anthony’s is a member of the Mid America Stroke Network. Launched by Saint Louis University Hospital in 2008, the network is committed to providing current and clinically effective stroke care to patients in the member hospitals’ respective communities. The network is the first and only one of its kind in the region.
