Brian Waldrop of Arnold, Mo., will speak about water stewardship and the Missouri Stream Team program at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in the community room at the First Unitarian Church, 110 E. Third St. in Alton.
ALTON — The Sierra Club Piasa Palisades Group’s Speaker Series this month will feature an environmental hero from the other side of the river, Brian Waldrop of Arnold, Mo.
A 20-year veteran of the Missouri Stream Team program, the founder of Team No. 211 and the St. Louis and Southeast Regional Missouri’s Stream Team assistant, Waldrop will speak about water stewardship and the Missouri Stream Team program. Named a River Champion by American Rivers earlier this year, Waldrop’s enthusiasm and dedication to waterways inspires others to get involved in water and environmental stewardship.
From removing thousands of tires from Missouri’s waterways to traveling to Guyana to help their environmental protection agency start its own water quality division, Brian still finds time for his “day job” with the Missouri Department of Conservation and to study conservation biology as an undergraduate at University of Missouri St. Louis. He also is an insect enthusiast.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in the community room at the First Unitarian Church, 110 E. Third St. (Third and Alby streets) in Alton. Everyone is invited to join the speaker for dinner at 5:45 p.m. at Mac’s, 315 Belle St. in Alton.
