COLLINSVILLE — Interim Illinois State Police District 11 Commander Timothy Tyler announced troopers may conduct Roadside Safety Checks, special Traffic Enforcement Patrols, Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols and Nighttime Enforcement Patrols in St. Clair or Madison counties during June.
The enforcement efforts will focus on impaired motorists, seat belt laws, speeding, child safety seat laws, reckless driving and illegal transportation of alcohol, among other offenses.
Across the country, an average of one alcohol-related traffic death occurs every 45 minutes. Alcohol and drug impairment are significant factors in more than 40 percent of fatal crashes in Illinois.
The details are funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
