ALTON – State Treasurer Michael Frerichs will join other elected officials and advocates in Alton this week to urge Gov. Bruce Rauner to sign House Bill 4633.
The legislation requires insurers to use the federal death master file to determine if a policyholder has died and death benefits have not been paid. The legislation passed unanimously in the Illinois House and Senate last month.
Frerichs will speak at a press conference at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at Senior Services Plus, 2603 N. Rodgers Ave. Others scheduled to attend the press conference are state Sen. William Haine and Ryan Gruenfelder of the American Association of Retired People.
In Illinois, the state treasurer is tasked with safeguarding unclaimed property, such as life insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts and unused rebate cards.
