EDWARDSVILLE — A teenager died Monday after his vehicle struck a tree in Staunton.
In a press release, Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn said Matthew E. Deweese, 17, of Livingston, was pronounced dead at 1:41 a.m. Monday by Madison County Coroner’s Investigator Sakina Hall at the crash scene.
Deweese was driving a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass east on Williamson Avenue when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. Deweese was wearing his seat belt but was ejected from the vehicle. The crash was reported to police at 12:48 a.m. Monday. There were no witnesses.
An autopsy Monday indicated Deweese suffered blunt head, chest and abdominal trauma. Routine toxicology testing for the presence of alcohol and drugs is pending. The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the funeral home.
