COLLINSVILLE – More than 150 SIUE students will learn about and make a difference in their community before heading back into the classrooms.
The students will come from all over, most meeting for the first time, to restore ecological habitats at Willoughby Heritage Farm and Conservation Reserve and Arlington Wetlands. They will join together from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, to help restore Illinois prairie, wetland and native woodland areas.
Students will be led by volunteers and biological/ecological experts from Lewis and Clark Community College, Madison County Planning and Development, University of Illinois Master Naturalists and Collinsville Area Recreation District staff. The students will learn how to identify and remove invasive species. They also plan on clearing and mulching part of the trail system and repairing trail erosion issues along bridges and steep hills.
