HARTFORD — Join your favorite superhero help battle childhood cancer Saturday, Sept. 12, during the Isaac’s Rays of Hope 5k/10k run/walk and family festival at the Lewis and Clark Confluence Tower, 435 Confluence Tower Drive.
Soaring in to the Super Hero Shuffle 5k/10k Run/Walk and Family Festival will be appearances from Captain America, Spider Man, Elsa, Darth Vader, stormtroopers, first responders and more. The event kicks off with the race starting at 9 a.m. The free family festival, with appearances by superheroes other family-friendly activities, will follow the race and end at 1 p.m.
Race registration fees are $35 for adults, $15 per child age 5 to 12, children 0 to 4 are free, but must register to receive a superhero cape. Groups of four can register for $120. Register for the race online at www.runsignup.com.
After the race, enjoy a free Super Hero Family Festival. Children will be able to meet their favorite superhero and have photograph opportunities There will also be a bounce house, silent auction, raffle, music, games, concessions and a butterfly release.
Wear a costume and compete to win in one of three contests. There will be a best adult costume, best child costume and best family costume.
This event is sponsored by and benefits Isaac’s Rays of Hope, based in Jerseyville. The nonprofit organization supports children with cancer and their families. The organization helps families who have a child diagnosed with cancer receive treatment and care.
During the festival, enjoy a tour of the tower with half-price admission.
The tower is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. five days a week Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Guided tours are available throughout the day. Admission to the tower is $4 for adults, $3 for active military and veterans, $2 for children 12 and under and children 2 and younger are free. Group rates are available for 12 or more people and reservations can be made by calling the Alton Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau at (618) 465-6676.
