ALTON – Alton police arrested a woman wanted for a federal indictment on aggravated identity theft Tuesday night.
Melanie A. Mahaney, 30, of Crossway, Tenn., was found about 7:13 p.m. in the area of East Ninth and Langdon streets, walking in the road west of East Ninth Street.
Police officials found a metal cylinder with a burnt end (crack pipe), a white plastic rod (push rod), a metal spoon and a hypodermic syringe on Mahaney’s person.
According to documents, Mahaney said she used the spoon and syringe to prepare and inject heroin on a daily basis.
Police completed one misdemeanor complaint against Mahaney, charging her with unlawful possession of drug equipment.
The Office of the Postal Inspector was called and said they would contact the East St. Louis U.S. Marshal’s office to arrange for transporting Mahaney in reference to her federal indictment, police records said.
