EAST ALTON — A stage agency cited three local businesses for underage alcohol sales last month.
The Illinois Liquor Control Commission and Illinois State Police District 11 conducted underage alcohol checks Friday, Aug. 22, in East Alton. Of nine licensees checked, three sold alcohol to underage participants. Those licensees were:
- Buck’s Gas, 11 E. Airline Drive
- Shop N Save, 634 Berkshire Blvd.
- Walgreen’s, 550 W. Saint Louis Ave.
Statewide, agents visited 208 businesses licensed to sell liquor and cited 42 for violations of liquor control laws. Eighty percent of the licensees visited complied with Illinois liquor laws and refused to serve underage customers.
Commission agents, local law enforcement officials and volunteers from high schools and colleges randomly visit liquor stores, restaurants and bars in communities around the state to check for ongoing compliance with state laws mandating that no liquor is sold to minors under the age of 21. Commission agents also work with local and state law enforcement agents to focus on communities with a high incidence of underage liquor sales.
