PONTOON BEACH — Nameoki Township Assessor Tammy Hanfelder has organized the second annual Senior Citizen Holiday Food Drive.
Last year’s drive gathered enough food to provide holiday meals for 15 needy senior citizen families. The donations included canned goods and non-perishable items. These items were donated by individuals, with the help of Grigsby Middle School students, Doit’s Village Inn, Casey’s General Store, Shop ’n Save and items collected at drop-off locations.
“I’m overwhelmed by the support of the local community for our seniors,” Hanfelder said.
Canned goods and non-perishable items can be dropped off at the Nameoki Township Assessor’s Office at 4250 Illinois 162 in Pontoon Beach, Pontoon Beach Village Hall at 1 Regency Parkway (off Illinois 111), Pontoon Beach; and Denny’s at 4111 Regency Parkway, Pontoon Beach. Organizers will be taking donations until Dec. 11. Holiday food baskets will be delivered to senior citizens Dec. 12.
“With the support of our community and local businesses, we can help needy seniors again this year,” Hanfelder said.
