Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White awarded Illinois History – Digital Imaging grants totaling $485,779 to 13 libraries for the preservation of and web access to historical collections.
“I am pleased to award these grants in an effort to increase access to collections that hold Illinois’ historical and cultural legacy,” White said. “Documents can fade, rip or degrade over time. By preserving these items, future generations will experience a deeper connection to Illinois’ rich history.”
Local recipients include Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, which received $42,371 for “Madison County, Illinois, Naturalization Records: A Digital Collection of Social and Family History.”
The grants will expand access to electronic collections through the Illinois Digital Archives database maintained by the Illinois State Library.
