Active duty and retired servicemen and women are invited to a free breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Senior Services Plus, 2603 N. Rodgers Ave. in Alton. A ceremony at 9:30 a.m. to thank and honor servicemen and women will be open to the public.
ALTON — Senior Services Plus invites active duty and retired servicemen and women to attend a free breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Any veteran who can provide proof of service in the military (hat, shirt, pin, honorable discharge papers or military ID) is eligible for a free meal from the breakfast special menu.
A ceremony at 9:30 a.m. to thank and honor servicemen and women will be open to the public. Guest speakers will discuss local programs and benefits available to veterans. Community Based Services Director and Supervisor Devon Neal will discuss Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, a grant-funded program from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Cash Grant Program.
The ceremony also will highlight Rodney Cook of Mission American Gratitude, Ray Wiedle of the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, and Tim Ogier of the Vet Center.
Entertainment will be offered by Cathy Croxton from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. as she plays the dulcimer (a classic folk instrument) and the piano.
RSVPs for the ceremony are encouraged but not required.
