The Code Red weather warnings set up through Madison County will soon also include boil orders for residents who receive water service from Brighton Water. The warnings already include severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings.
“After concerns were brought to us by residents regarding notification following boil orders and which residents would be contacted, we have entered into a partnership with Brighton Water to improve notifications to those customers living in northeastern portions of Godfrey who are serviced by Brighton Water,” Godfrey Public Safety Administrator Chris Sichra said. “It’s really a win-win situation for our residents, improving warnings by simply expanding an existing program (and) does not incur any additional costs to residents.”
Brighton previously notified some businesses, contacted the health department and issued press releases in the event of a boil order. The village was concerned about some older residents and shut-ins who may not learn about the order. The Code Red system now will reach out to residents with a phone call to those serviced by Brighton Water.
Sichra encourages all Godfrey residents to sign up for the warnings, especially residents living in those northeastern areas of the village serviced by Brighton Water, at public.coderedweb.com/cne/en-US/68684CD288F8.
