A worker was severely burned in a natural gas explosion after a pipeline ruptured Wednesday afternoon, according to media reports.
In a Facebook post, the Maryville Police Department said the explosion was in the area of Illinois 162 and Nottingham Estates. Authorities reopened Illinois 162 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Several vehicles were destroyed in the explosion, according to media reports. An excavating machine broke an underground pipe.
The worker was taken to a St. Louis hospital with burns over 70 percent of his body. His condition was unknown Thursday morning.
