Abigail Ruth “Abby” McElroy, 17, of Granite City, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015, at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born June 27, 1998, in Maryville,, the precious daughter of Marshall L. and Debbie S. (Henson) McElroy.
Abby was in her senior year at Granite City High School. She was planning to attend the University of North Texas to pursue her gift of music. She was a very talented musician, being able to play many instruments including the flute, piano, violin and percussion and was active with the Granite City Marching Warriors Band. She was a devoted member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City, where she was a gift to the Music Ministry and active with the youth group. She was a member of the National Honor Society and was active with the Webster University Young People’s Concert Orchestra. Her life was a ray of sunshine to all whom knew her.
Abby will live on as we remember her happiness in life and ability to make others laugh through her goofy and fun personality. She has touched so many lives across the United States through her family, friends and her life in music. In addition to her beloved parents, she is survived by two brothers, Zachary Lee McElroy of Granite City and Justin Wayne McElroy of Granite City; a niece, Eirian Ruth McElroy; aunts and uncles, Tracey and Gabi McElroy, Jim and Pat Henson, Evelyn and Warren VanLoon, Steve and Pearl McElroy, Shelley and Rick Thompson, Karen Lancaster and Phil Willis; great-aunts, Virginia Wilkins, Vivian Talmage and Bess Brander; great-uncle, Ray Stricklin; cousins, Hannah McElroy, Riley McElroy, Valerie Trim, Jennifer Engelke and Steven McElroy, along with many other cousins, other extended family; special friends, Skyler Sutphin, Kelley Jones, Ben Petri, Ian Cowley, Jacob Cowley, Alexis Cook, Clarrica Johnson, Matt Reznack and Lacy Cook; and many other special friends too numerous to mention.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at Calvary Life Church, 4650 Maryville Road in Granite City. Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at the church with the Rev. Mark Maynard and the Rev. Brian Bradshaw officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
