Afton “Louise” Mayer, 85, of Alton, passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 15, 1930, in Anna-Jonesboro, Ill., the daughter of the late Frank and Lucy (Moore) Crissip.
She married Carl Mayer on Nov. 13, 1954, at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Alton. He survives.
Louise was a Pediatric nurse at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was a lifetime member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Alton, a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 1308, and she enjoyed crocheting and reading. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband and three children and their spouses, Mark and Deb Mayer of Bethalto, Carla and Charles Naylor Jr. of Alton, and Judith Mayer of Miami, Fla.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer and Ryan Spurgeon of Bethalto, Jason and Lindsey Mayer of Columbia, Ill., Steven and Lindsey Naylor of Alton, and Michael Naylor of Alton; six great-grandchildren, Evan, Adelynn, Edith, Ryleigh, Emerson and Grady; two siblings, MaryAnn and her spouse, Lee Harvick, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Susie Patton of Anna; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings, Thomas Crissip, Pauline Frogge, Catherine Goetten and Mildred Crissip.
Private services will be Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016.
Burial will take place at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
