Albert Myron Batchelor, 90, of Alton, passed away at 9:22 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, in Alton with family at his side.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1924, in Alton, the son of the late Claude and Matilda (Marks) Batchelor.
He married Edith Marie Sons on Sept. 16, 1947, at Cherry Street Baptist Church in Alton. She survives. They celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Albert performed maintenance and was the Head Electrician for Alton School District No. 11. He had been a lifetime member of Cherry Street Baptist Church. Albert was very involved in several clubs, such as Coachmen’s, Shriners, and was the Past Worshipful Master of the Piasa Masonic Lodge. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Brenda) Batchelor of Alton; one daughter, Theodosia (Jim) Tiemann of Brighton; one sister, Myrtle Dunn of Texas; four grandchildren, Melissa (Andrew) Merkle of Alton, Kim (Jason) Campbell of Alton, Michael R.A. Batchelor of Godfrey and Katelyn Batchelor of Alton; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, and Shelby Campbell and Genevieve Merkle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Burch Batchelor and Clarence Batchelor; and two sisters, Mildred Schmidt and Frances Wiegand.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Masonic Rites will be performed at 7 p.m. by the Piasa Masonic Lodge.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at the funeral home with Dr. Glen Greenwood officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to Godfrey Baptist Church Building Fund or the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
