Alberta E. “Grandma Cookie” Frazier, 92, of Edwardsville, formerly of Granite City, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
Alberta was born March 12, 1923, in DeSoto, Mo., a daughter to the late Arthur and Jennie (Knox) Riehl.
Early in her working career, Alberta worked for Cater Carburetor, then went on to working at Seibolds Bakery in Granite City as a manager, where she was known as “Grandma Cookie.” Alberta was a member of Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City and in her free time she enjoyed her yearly trips to Disney World and Branson. She loved kids and to baby sit, but most of all she loved her family. Alberta will be remembered for all the good times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her son, Larry and (Anita) Frazier of St. Charles, Mo.; daughter, Gail and (Mike) Washenko of Maryville; grandchildren, Patrick and (Natalie) Frazier, Lauren Frazier, Andrew Washenko and Stephanie Washenko; and great-grandchildren, Jason DeJong and Corran DeJong.
In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur L. Frazier Jr.; her daughter, Beverly Frazier Dummitt; her brothers, John, Walter, Roy and Raymond; and her sisters, Emma, Ollie and Florence.
In celebration of her life, friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, with Pastor Mike Rayson officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
