Alta Lucille “Lou” Wilson, 82 of Granite City, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family.
Alta was born on July 25, 1932, in Altus, Ark.; a daughter to the late Johnny Floyd Barnes and Nettie (Barnette) Vandeveer Cuvar. Alta was a lifelong homemaker and mother. She was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and artistic painting. She will be remembered for her kind heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her husband, David L. Wilson, who she married on Nov. 6, 1954; her daughters, Crystal and (Ellis) Hankins of Granite City, Cathie and (Vince) Martinez of Granite City; her sons, David and (Kathy) Wilson Jr. of Granite City, Steve and (Chrissy) Wilson of Granite City; grandchildren, Annessa Skouby, Vincent Martinez, Luke Wilson, Leah Wilson and David Wilson III; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Johnnie Williams; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her half brother, Bill.
In celebration of her life a memorial gathering will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2015, with the service to begin at 7 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 2801 Madison Ave. in Granite City with Fr. Chris Comerford officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Granite City A.P.A.
