Arnella Oliver, 77, of Wood River, passed away at 7:33 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton.
She was born May 6, 1938, at home in the area of the Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky to the late Orbie and Nellie (Blankenship) Aldridge.
On May 28, 1956, she and Ernest “Ernie” A. Oliver were married in Corinth, Miss. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2001.
Arnella was a homemaker and had attended First General Baptist Church of Rosewood Heights. She loved to play bingo and do word search puzzles. She enjoyed vacationing with family and riding on the pontoon boat. Her life centered around her family. She was a caregiver not only to her own children, but her three granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Brian Sherer of Roxana; three granddaughters, Felisha (Ernie) Fries, Marissa Sherer and Samantha Sherer; a brother, Tom (Liz) Aldridge of Kuttawa, Ky.; two sisters, Dorothy Petty of Hickory Valley, Tenn., and Donna (Tommy) Vinson of Princeton, Ky.; a special niece, Shelly Hefner; and great-niece and great-nephew, Josie and Robby Hefner.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Oliver; and a sister, Ann Powell.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Paynic Home for Funerals, where services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery.
