Arthur Conrad Hawkes Sr., 62, of Granite City died on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Gateway Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Dec. 24, 1953, in Roswell, N.M., to Haskel and Maria (nee Mata) Hawkes. Arthur married Janet Lee Hutchinson in Granite City on Jan. 19, 1970.
The U.S. Army veteran loved to hunt, especially deer, and loved to gather arrowheads, mushroom and artifacts in the great outdoors. He was an avid gamer who loved XBOX One.
Besides his wife of 45 years, Arthur is survived by one son, Arthur Conrad Hawkes Jr. of Granite City; one daughter, Farrah Lee Hawkes of Granite City; and four grandchildren, Aaron Edward Hawkes, Shane Anthony Hawkes, Mariah Lee Broyles and Taylor Cheyenne Broyles. Also surviving are one brother: H.R. Hawkes Jr. of South Roxana; five sisters, Maria Christine Root of Oklahoma, Diane (Kevin) Berg of Texas, Cora Hawkes of Granite City, Delores (Jerry) Davidson of Edwardsville and Lori Parker of Granite City. Arthur also is survived by four sister-in-laws: Marty Hutchinson, Marsha (Alan) Meyer, Jen (Keith) Sugg and Michelle Hozian; and his lifelong friend, David Street. He will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Ryan Arthur Hawkes; a brother, Anthony Ray Hawkes; and his father and mother-in-law, Jerden Lee and Norma Hutchinson.
