Arthur David Oberle, 82, formerly of Granite City, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at Cahokia Nursing and Rehab in Cahokia.
He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Festus, Mo., the son of the late Leo M. and Minerva H. (nee: Schlag) Oberle.
He married Janet Harriss on Sept. 25, 1965, in Granite City.
Arthur worked for many years at Holy Family Catholic School in Granite City doing maintenance. Prior he worked at M.A. Bell Foundry in St. Louis for more than 10 years doing maintenance. He was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, Victorious Missionaries in Belleville and Seeds of Hope in Belleville.
He is survived by his son, David (Lori) Oberle of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Hunter Madison and Colton David Oberle; three brothers, Stephen Oberle, Robert (Etta) Oberle and John (Peggy) Oberle; brother-in-law, Thomas (Jean) Harriss; five sisters, Minerva (Richard) Becker, Ruth McCoy, Earline (Jim) Striler, Jacqueline “Jackie” (Russell) Nunley and Kathy Eggemeyer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Janet Lee Oberle; both parents; two brothers, Carl Oberle and Leon Oberle; sister, Ellen Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Elaine Oberle; three brothers-in-law, Howard McCoy, Barry Eggemeyer and Leo A. Fitzgerald; and one nephew and one niece.
Family will greet people from 9 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, with Father Manuel Cuizon officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at IOOF Cemetery in DuQuoin, Ill. Memorials may be made to: Seeds of Hope in Belleville and Marian Chapter of Victorious Missionaries in Belleville.
