Augustine G. “Jr.” Overfelt Jr., of Granite City, passed away at 9:09 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2014 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City at the age of 74.
He was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Kokomo, Ind. He married Pat A. (Turner) on Oct. 27, 1973, in Madison and she survives. He retired in 2002 as a driver with Schnucks after many years of dedicated service with the Teamsters Local No. 610 in St. Louis. He was a member of the Granite City American Legion Post No. 113 and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed his days of camping and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son, Danny (Cathy) Overfelt of Hillsboro, Ind.; three daughters, Debbie Smith of Indianapolis, Darla (O’dell) Frasure of Milford, Ind., and Marcia (Marty) Nading of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Kay Stabler of Virginia Beach, Va., Chetra (Larry) Whittinghill of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Gretta (Rex) Hurst of West Lafayette, Ind.; five brothers, Dennis (Cindy) Overfelt of Crawfordsville, Ind., Elmer (Sharon) Overfelt of Crawfordsville, Ind., Steve (Connie) Overfelt of Crawfordsville, Ind., Lee (Melanie) Overfelt of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Jack (Karen) McAnulty of Texas; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Overfelt; a daughter, Marlene Overfelt; father, Augustine George Overfelt; mother, Mary (Matthews) Overfelt; stepmother, Zella Overfelt; and one brother, Tommy Overfelt.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, with the Rev. Larry Blankley officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to Special Olympics and may be accepted at the funeral home, www.irwinchapel.com.
