Barbara A. Johnson, 77, of Granite City, passed away at 7:43 a.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Madison, a daughter of the late Clarence E. and Ozain (Todd) Barr. She married Donald L. Johnson on May 4, 1956, at Tri-City Tabernacle in Madison and he survives.
Barbara retired in 1996 from the Operating Engineers Local No. 148 Credit Union after over 20 years of dedicated service as an office manager for Union Electric. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Tri-City Assembly of God Church and a former longtime member of Bethel Chapel. Through the years she had served as a Sunday school teacher and choir director. She enjoyed her days of working with crafts, floral designing, interior decorating, gardening and tending to her yard. She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Gary Ellis of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Missy Johnson of Sunset, Texas; four grandchildren and spouses, Jeremy Ellis, Jamie and Jeff Shafer, Haley Johnson, and Mathew Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Seth Shafer and Allison Shafer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Carol Barr of Highland and Clarence and Suzanne Barr Jr. of Highland; a sister-in-law, Linda Barr of Granite City; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Barr; and a sister, Ruth Barr.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at noon Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Tri-City Assembly of God Church, 3400 Maryville Road in Granite City, with the Rev. Barry Shepherd officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials may be made to the Tri-City Assembly of God Church.
