Bernice “Jack” Allen Norton, 90, of Granite City, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015, with family by his side.
He was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Holcomb, Mo., the son to Elmer and Lessie (nee: McQurik) Norton.
Jack worked for 38 years at Laclede Steel as an overhead crane operator. He enjoyed playing pool and selling cars.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Darlene Sue Norton and Carolyn Jean Davis; son, Bobby Allen Norton; two grandchildren, Gregory and Richard; two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Brendan; brother, Walter “Dub” Norton; sister, Vernice Price and special friend, Juanita Hines.
He is survived by five daughters, Mary Ann Martin of Granite City, Barbara Merchant of Granite City, Patricia (Chester) Whyers of Odin, Beverly Carter of Granite City and Cheryl Hutchinson of Granite City; son, Billy Ray (Donna) Norton of Granite City; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory in Granite City, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to Grace Church East Haiti Missions.
