Betty Elaine Hamilton, 87, of Lebanon, formerly of Granite City, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at her daughter’s home with her family by her side.
She was born on April 8, 1927, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Elmer C. and Vesta A. (Bateman) Meinert.
Betty enjoyed her many years as a nurse at Gateway Regional Medical Center and was a dedicated member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Granite City. She was a member of Ladies Aid, the Senior Circle and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her generous heart and the many special times she shared with her family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Gateway Hospice for taking such loving care of our mom.
Betty is survived by and will be missed by her daughter, Judy and (Russ) McGovern of Lebanon; a son, Steven L. and (Janice) Hamilton of John’s Island, S.C.; grandchildren, Erin and (Tim) Foley, Christopher and (Vanessa) Hamilton; great-grandchildren, Rowan Foley, Noah Foley and Maxie Foley; sisters, Louise Koester and Bertha Abel; special family friend, Diane Briddell; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Hamilton, whom she married on July 5, 1946.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life, visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2305 Grand Ave. in Granite City, with Pastor Brian Feicho officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Gateway Hospice, Concordia Lutheran Church or Granite City A.P.A.
