Betty I. Blankenship, 88, a longtime resident of the United Methodist Village in Godfrey, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, February 10, 2014 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab in Jerseyville, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on February 26, 1925 in Beardstown, the daughter to the late George Kenneth and Blanche E. (Hocking) Wood.
Betty had been a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital and a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
On May 1, 1948, she and Donald E. Blankenship were married in East Alton. He preceded her in death December 18, 2007.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Donna Blankenship of Wanda; two daughters and a son-in-law, Denise and Mike Verbais of Godfrey and Debbie Keymon of Alton; three grandchildren, Chad and Sarah Verbais of Edwardsville, Daron and Joan Verbais of Godfrey and Andrew Blankenship and his fiancée, Jessica Tucker of Wood River; and eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Verbais of Salem, Oregon, Vincent, Davis, Scott, Knox and Cecilia of Edwardsville and Mary and Tom Verbais of Godfrey.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Marshall and Jacque Wood.
Services were through Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
