Carl Dean Peters, 90, of Clayton, Mo., formerly of Granite City, passed away at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at the Sunrise Senior Living in Clayton.
He was born July 19, 1924 in Sand Ridge, Ill., a son of the late Wilbert Earl and Madge Ingolbe (McAllister) Peters. He married Virginia Lee (Rosenberger) Peters in January 1947 in Gorham, Ill., and she preceded him in death. He was a self-employed civil engineer and had owned and operated C.D. Peters Construction Company until his retirement in January 1972. He had received his Master's Degree in Engineering and was the first person to pass the Professional Engineers Licensing in Madison County. The United States veteran proudly served as a First Lieutenant with the Army Air Corps from 1941 until 1944. He was a 32nd Degree member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Shriners. He was a faithful and devoted member of Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, where he was very involved and served as an usher. He had a strong work ethic through his life, and loved to farm and hunt. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son, James Dean Peters of Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Ann and Monty Docter of St. Louis; three grandchildren, Clayton Peters of San Francisco, Calif., Cameron and Mari Docter of Chicago and Courtney and Ryan Gable of St. Louis; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Gable, Devon Gable and Colin Gable; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dale Peters.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, July 17, 2015, at Nameoki United Methodist Church, 1900 Pontoon Road in Granite City, with the Rev. Mike Rayson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
