Carmelita Rose Betts, 82, formerly of Bethalto, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015, at Edwardsville Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born Jan. 29, 1933, in Tamms, the daughter of Lark J. and Mary L. (Schilling) Betts. Carmelita often worked as a caregiver for children and enjoyed embroidery.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty Betts, both of Tamms, and Debbie Betts of Bethalto; a brother, Wesley Betts of Brighton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Bernelda and Bill Burney of Wood River, Alta and Graydon Smith of Carbondale, and Edna Gold of Wood River; and many other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her siblings and their spouses, Charles and Jean, Robert and Ruby, John and Ann, Clifford and Lillian, and Lark Betts Jr., Mary and Jim Overmeyer, Vernetta and Ralph Henderson, Leona and Harvey Roach, and Nevitha Betts, Larry Gold, Robert and Ruby Betts, Dwight and Margaret Schilling.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Burial will take place at noon Monday, March 16, 2015, in St. John’s Cemetery in Dongola, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
