Carol “Maurlyn” Heppner, 86, of Alton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at Eunice Smith Home with her family by her side.
She was born July 18, 1928, in Alton, the daughter of Leland F. and Sylvia “Lillian” (Miller) Laux. She married Earl L. Heppner on April 28, 1951, in Alton, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1998.
Maurlyn had worked at Bell Telephone Co. in Alton. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Piecemakers quilting group at the Senior Center. Maurlyn was a lifelong member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church, having served as a Sunday School and VBS teacher, choir member, and was Deacon several times. She was an excellent baker, known for her cookies and pies. Her greatest joy and focus of her life was her family.
She is survived by two children, James and Debbie Heppner of Godfrey, and Jane Heppner of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Gaile and James George of Hamel, and Maxine Willis of Winchester, Va.; a brother, James and Jerry Laux of Alton; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Laux of Alton and JoAnn Laux of Nixa, Mo.; two grandchildren, Jacob Heppner and Anna Heppner of Alton; a great-grandchild, Irelynn Heppner-Settles of Alton; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Earl; she is preceded in death by two brothers, David Laux and Leland Laux.
Visitation will be held 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton with the Rev. Dale Jackson officiating.
Burial will take place at Valhalla Memorial Park.
