Carolyn S. Thomason, 76, of Granite City, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2015, at her home.
Carolyn was born Oct. 2, 1938, in Vinita, Okla., a daughter to the late Charles and Edna Wattenbarger.
Carolyn joined Holy Family Catholic Church in 2006 and attended St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always loved to spend time with them. Carolyn loved flowers and spending time on he patio with her little dog Bella, who gave her a reason for getting up each and every morning. One of many highlights in her life was when she was a kindergarten aide at Wilson School for 4 ½ years and had 27 new “babies” each school year. Those children brought such a joy and a new meaning into her life.
Carolyn is survived by and will be missed by her husband; Marty Thomason, whom she married on July 18, 1987; her children, Jim and (Kim) Hastings, Toni and (Tammi) Hastings, Susan and (Jake) Lutz; grandchildren, Nick and (Rosalie) Hastings, Lindsey and (Brian) Johnson, C.J. Stefanoff, Liz and (Pat) Pautler, Trevor Stefanoff, Alissa Hastings; and great-grandchildren, Silas Hastings, Ethne Johnson and Judah Hastings.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her sisters; Pauline Wynn and Billie McClerg; brother, Jack Wattenbarger; son, Terry Lee Hastings; and grandson, B.J. Hastings.
In celebration of Carolyn’s life, friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon Friday, July 10, 2015, with Fr. Chris Comerford officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to Gateway Hospice.
