Charles S. Rhoads, 76, of Granite City, died at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Christian Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Granite City, a son of the late John and Pauline (Sackett) Rhoads.
He married Anna M. (Young) Rhoads on March 21, 1980, in Madison and she survives.
Charles retired in 1997 with more than 30 years of dedicated service with the Teamsters Local No. 525. The United States veteran proudly served his country with the Navy and was a member of the AMVETS Post No. 204 in Madison. He was a volunteer with the Long Lake Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed his days of fishing and hunting and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a daughter, Lorie Allen and boyfriend, Mike, of Granite City; son, Charlie Rhoads Jr. and girlfriend, Lena, of Villa Ridge, Mo.; grandchildren, Melissa Mitchell and husband, Robert, of Granite City, Daniela Allen of Granite City, Nathan Rhoads and wife, Brandy of Cuba, Mo., and Jacob Rhoads of Cuba, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Parker Robert Mitchell, Peyton Lynn Allen, Kaitlyn Rhoads, Olivia Rhoads and Easton Rhoads; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and many dear friends. In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, William and Mary Lou Rhoads, Marion and Mary Stawar, Eldon and Deloyce Rhoads, Charles and Julia Voloski, Teresa Rhoads, Tim and Pauline Burns and Bernard and Martha Strain.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Clint Wisdom officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
