Charles Wayne Sampson, 66, of Potosi, Mo., and formerly of Granite City, passed away at 10:46 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Town and Country, Mo.
He was born Nov. 2, 1948, in Granite City, the son of the late Clifford and Mary Ellen (Gosviner) Sampson. He married Laura (Pritchard) Sampson on Aug. 26, 1995, in Potosi and she survives. Charles was an over-the-road truck driver for many years and was a member of the Teamsters Local No. 525 in Alton. He loved his “Little piece of Heaven” farm, where he enjoyed all of his animals. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Michelle Sampson of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Daniel Weathers of Granite City; three stepsons, Christopher Jayne of Potosi, Dustin Jayne and fiancée, Chrissy of O’Fallon, Mo., and Brandon Jayne and fiancée, Liz of Warrenton, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Jimi Sampson, Ryan Sampson, Abigail Sampson, Jaydan Weathers, Jordon Weathers, Madyson Weathers and Morgan Weathers, all of Granite City, Kendall Jayne and Layla Jayne, both of Warrenton, Mo.; former wife and lifelong friend, Deborah Barnes Vest of Granite City; many special nephews and nieces; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Elton Haderlein.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
Visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at White Oak Grove Baptist Church, White Oak Grove Lane in Potosi, Mo., under the direction of Horton and Wampler Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Richards will officiate. Burial will follow at the Red Bud Cemetery in Potosi, Mo. Memorials may be made to the Sampson family at www.irwinchapel.com.
