Claragene Grace Roderick, 96, of Edwardsville, passed away at 1:50 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.
She was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Hillsboro, a daughter of the late Samuel and Inez (Taylor) Fox. She married William E. Roderick on Sept. 9, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1997. Claragene retired from Madison County Highway Department after 20 years of dedicated service as an accountant. She was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Edwardsville.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Mary Roderick of Edwardsville and Jim and Robin Roderick of Des Peres, Mo.; four grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Lesley Roderick, Erin and Joey Garwood, Andrew Roderick and Kathryn and Matt Leibee; five great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Madelyn and Hope Roderick and Joel and Brooke Garwood; a sister-in-law, Barbara McAtee; and other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and three half-brothers.
In celebration of her life and in honor of her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a private family inurnment at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
