Claudia Rae Stephens, 60, of Wylie, Texas, formerly of Granite City, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at her home in Granite City.
She was born on Dec. 1, 1954, in Granite City, a daughter to the late Claude E. “Shorty” and Fern E. (Grigsby) Corey.
Claudia dedicated more than 30 years of her life as a Medical Coding Specialist working at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, General American Life Insurance Company, Washington University and retiring from EMT for Children in Texas. She was a member of AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders) and was a talented third baseman and shortstop for the Schooley Flames softball team. Claudia will be remembered for her kind heart and all the special times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her husband, Thomas Craig Stephens, who she married on May 8, 1981; her daughter, Amy and (Mike) Bryant of Granite City; her son, Chris Stephens of Wylie, Texas; grandchildren, Brock Bryant of Granite City and Kacie Bryant of Granite City; sisters, Jean Schloss, and Janice and (Jerry) Martin; and brother, James and (Julie) Corey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ron Corey.
In celebration of her life, friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. with Cissy Padgett officiating at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Memorials are suggested to the Kacie Bryant Benefit Fund.
