Cleola Elizabeth Siebert (nee Becherer) 86, of Granite City, passed away on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at The Fountains in Granite City.
She was born on March 22, 1928, in Granite City, a daughter to the late Oswald and Bertha (Schuetz) Becherer.
Cleola was a longtime supervisor of accounting at the commissary at the Melvin Price Support Center. She was an active member at Holy Family Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharist minister, gave countless hours serving those in need as a member of the Ministry of Compassion; served on the ladies funeral luncheon committee and was a member of the young at hearts. In her free time she enjoyed quilting and traveling. Cleola was most generous and gave a helping hand to all in need. She will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and all the special times she shared with her family.
She is survived by and will be missed by her daughters, Marie Firkus of Edwardsville and Cathy Tankersley of Richmond, Va.; son, Michael and (Kim) Siebert of Salem, Conn.; sister, Louise McCann of Peoria; brother, Charles Becherer of Oregon; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parent, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Siebert, whom he married on Feb. 26, 1949; her daughter, Patricia Schwaller; her sister, Dolores; and her brothers, Robert, Raymond and Harold.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life, services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Ave. in Granite City with Fr. Jeff Holtman officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials are suggested to Catholic Charities.
