Cletus John Sheff, 60, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart, Ind.
He was born Aug. 2, 1955, in Alton, the son to the late Cletus Sheff and Virginia Thomas.
Cletus married Terrie Denham on Nov. 26, 1994, in Jerseyville. She survives.
He worked for CBW Transport and loved hunting, fishing and his black lab, Jack, and was a proud member of the Cottage Hills VFW Post 7678. He loved his grandchildren and they made him bubble like no other bubble.
Cletus is survived by his wife, Terrie (Denham) Sheff of Plainview; five children, Cletus John (Heather) Sheff Jr. of Hartford, Nikki Sheff of Bethalto, Charles Joshua Squier of Staunton, Christopher Charles (Stephanie) Sheff of Nevada, and Samuel Jeffrey (Judy) Sheff of Wood River; 12 grandchildren, Lucas and Logan Sheff , Christian Garrett, Kailey Watt, Kage and Kole Squier, Steven, Lucian and Adam Sheff, Sandra, Aiden and Tristan Sheff; five siblings, Sharon (Bob) Burns of East Alton, Maurice (Susan) Sheff of Rosewood Heights, and George (Debbie) Sheff of Holiday Shores; a father-in-law, Charles Denham of Brighton, and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepfather, John Dooley; his mother-in-law, Patsy Denham; sister, Beverly Chambers and a brother, Gary Sheff.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015.
Burial will follow at Short Cemetery in Cottage Hills.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for Children’s Hunting Programs.
