David C. Whipple, 67, of Alton passed away at 3:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
He was born in Alton on Sept. 6, 1947, the son of the late Wallace and Elsie (Webb) Whipple.
He married Pamela J. Simpson on May 27, 1995, in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
Dave retired as a detective for the Alton Police Department. He was the president for the Alton Eagles, FOE 254, for two years. He helped build the 911 system as the head coordinator for Madison County from 1991-2002. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 7804, Alton Wood River Sportsman Club, NENA (National Emergency Number Association), and the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police). Dave enjoyed golf and baseball, but most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by one daughter, Allison (Nash) Poindexter of Dry Ridge, Ky.; one son, Matthew Whipple of Alton; two brothers, Jack (Virginia) Russo of Springfield, Ill., Donald Whipple of Alton; and one sister, Vickie (Danny) Swain of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
