Delmar A. Schoenleber, 91, of Edwardsville, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.
Delmar was a retired farmer and millwright at Granite City Steel, where he worked for 35 years. Delmar was born Nov. 15, 1924, at home in Worden, the son of the late Alfred J. and Amanda (Stahlhut) Schoenleber. He married Marcella Clara Smith Feb. 10, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill. The marriage was blessed by 5 children, Bonnie (Michael) Williams of Edwardsville, Linda (Rev Steven) Dressler of Altenburg, Mo., David Schoenleber, Myra (Robert) Farrell both of Edwardsville, and Sandra (Randy) Hinck of Concordia, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 11great-grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law, Connie Schoenleber of Edwardsville, Ileine Bond of Staunton, Mossaline Smith of Staunton and Marion Smith of Bunker Hill; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lamoine Schoenleber, and one sister, Delores Ketcham.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, the Trinity Lutheran Men’s Club, and the Madison County Farm Bureau and was a strong supporter of Unity Lutheran School in East St. Louis. Delmar taught Sunday school for more than 45 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. After serving the Navy, he came back and attended the University of Illinois in Champaign. He was a Boy Scout & 4H Leader.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Shank officiating. Interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville. The family requests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church.
